We have seen football players take on difficult feats in the past, and now retired Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis will be added to the list this upcoming June. He announced his intentions to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania – the tallest freestanding mountain in the world – in his efforts to raise awareness for clean water in Africa. He was known for his rigorous off-season training and without surprise; he is not taking his retirement lightly either.
On his Lockerdome page Lewis wrote, “I am so FIRED UP for this adventure, but until then, I need your help to bring clean water wells to thousands of children and families.” Lewis created the website so fans can donate and spread awareness through social media. He is also giving away a Baltimore Ravens autographed helmet for whoever has the most entries on his page.
Having completed a 17 year career, this next adventure will add to Lewis’ impressive list of accomplishments including being titled Associated Press NFL Defensive Player of the Year twice, as well as earning Pro Bowl selection thirteen times.
The Kilimanjaro clean water project ties closely with Ray Lewis’ legendary reputation. Along with being a retired Super Bowl Champion, Lewis has also signed as an ESPN broadcaster.
