Indy 500: Inside the Greatest Spectacle in Racing

The Indy 500, held annually over the Memorial Day weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway Indiana is billed as the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” Pro Player Insiders Michael Johnson is there to bring you inside the spectacle.

The day began with the former Colts quarterback Jim Harbaugh driving the pace car and the crowd of some 300,000 singing along to “Back Home Again in Indiana.”  The day ended with with a wild finish filled with caution flags and finally a win for Tony Kanaan.

The official attendance is not disclosed by Speedway management, but the permanent seating capacity is more than 257,000 people, and infield seating raises capacity to an approximate 400,000.

The race is a 2.5 mile oval circuit and consists of 200 laps that run counterclockwise around the circuit, for a distance of 500 miles.
