The month of May is Lupus Awareness Month. On Saturday, May 18th join the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey for a 5k walk in the help to find a cure for lupus. According to the New York State Department of Health, systematic lupus erythematosus or lupus, is a chronic autoimmune disorder that can affect virtually any organ of the body.
In lupus, the body’s immune system, which normally functions to protect against foreign invaders, becomes hyperactive, forming antibodies that attack normal tissues and organs, including the skin, joints, kidneys, brain, heart, lungs, and blood. If you or someone you know has lupus or just want to contribute to the cause to fight lupus, the New York Jets are encouraging everyone to form a team and raise funds for the Alliance for Lupus Research’s annual New Jersey Walk With Us to Cure Lupus.
To join the Jets team, visit walk.lupusresearch.org for more information and if you are not able to make it to the event, you can still contribute and support the team by giving a donation or by bidding on New York Jets items and experiences at nflauction.nfl.com for the month of May. The registration for the 5K will begin at 9 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10 a.m. For more information on the event visit walk.lupusresearch.org/newjersey, email skirkpatrick@lupusresearch.org, or call the Alliance for Lupus research at 732-842-1607.
The Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) is a national voluntary health organization based in New York City that was founded in 1999 and is chaired by Robert Wood Johnson IV, a member of the founding family of Johnson & Johnson. The mission of the Alliance for Lupus Research is to find better treatments and ultimately prevent and cure systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE or lupus), a debilitating autoimmune disease, by supporting medical research.
