SB Champ Anquan Boldin Didn’t Expect to be Traded

If you can’t beat ‘em… yeah, yeah, we know.
But… what if you CAN beat ‘em, then Join ‘em anyway?

That’s the reality for WR Anquan Boldin, who was traded to San Francisco from Baltimore AFTER the Ravens defeated the 49ers in the Super Bowl! Crazy!

“I really didn’t expect to be traded,” he said in a conference with the Bay Area media yesterday. “Initially, it was shocking.”

I mean, who could blame him?  You’re riding high, fresh off winning your first Super Bowl and as a primary contributor to the team, and then you get handed off to the team that you just beat! If that was me, it would definitely feel like I downgraded. Actually, that’s pretty much what happened since he went from the “best team” to the immediate runner up.

What I want to know is, has there been any player who has won the Super Bowl, gotten traded right after, and then won the Super Bowl again with his new team the very next year? My research has come up empty, so if you know please leave a comment below.

The 49ers have another decent shot to win it all next year. Maybe the third time’s the charm for Jim Harbaugh?

As unfortunate as the situation is for Boldin, he’s moving on and focusing on the now.”[The Ravens have] been great to me and my family. The fans have been tremendous,” he said. “The only regret I have is not being able to say goodbye, the way that I want to.”

Reports from the local media have said that Boldin has reached out to 49ers (now undisputed) starting QB Colin Kaepernick, and has asked that the two plan to meet and start working out together. When asked if he would be able to catch Kaepernick’s bullet passes, you could almost hear him scoff when he said, “I’ve played with some big-armed quarterbacks. It won’t be a problem.”

He also expects to wear no. 81, Terrell Owens’ old number. I don’t think that should be a problem, not like the team is going to retire Owens’ jersey anytime soon.
