RLIII Following in his Dad’s Footsteps Has Its Drawbacks

Ray Lewis III, son of Ray Lewis, will start his college football career next fall at the University of Miami. As many sons of famous Dad’s know, it’s always hard to follow in the footsteps of their Dad. It’s particularly difficult when your Dad was involved in an incident in 2000 that left two people stabbed to death. Ray Lewis pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice after first being charged with murder.

Local 6 in Orlando has profiled Tatyana McCall, who is the mother of Ray Lewis III and two other children with Ray Lewis. In the profile McCall talks about a scene at her home shortly after the AFC Championship Game, when Ray Lewis III got a very disturbing message on Twitter referring to his Dad as a murderer.

“We’re all celebrating and Ray-Ray casually walks into the kitchen and shows me a tweet on his cell phone,” McCall said in her interview with Local 6. “Someone tweeted to him, ‘How does it feel to have a father who’s a murderer?’ So Ray Ray said, ‘So what should I say?’ And I said, ‘What do you think you should say? Is your father a murderer?’”

The actual message and exchange appeared to have gone something like this.

“How does it feel to have a Dad who killed someone?”

RLIII replied “I feel like a boss”.

The other person responded back “Dude, that’s pretty sad. Grow up.”

People can understand to a certain point if they wanted to attack or question Ray Lewis for an incident that happened thirteen years ago. That’s only natural with so many questions remaining unanswered.

But to go after his son and blame him because of who his father is totally crosses the line.

As Ray Lewis III embarks on the start of his college football career, with most likely a goal of reaching the NFL, how he chooses to handle adversity will speak volumes to his character.
