The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a tragedy early Saturday morning as one of their player has reportedly taken his own life after shooting is girlfriend.
Numerous reports have identified the player as linebacker Jovan Belcher although the police have not officially made Belcher’s identity public.
The player apparently shot his girlfriend then drove to a practice facility near the team’s main campus and took his own life. The team’s Arrowhead practice facility was evacuated and is currently on police lockdown.
“We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning,” the team said in a statement this morning. “We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation.”
Chiefs players have been asked to assemble at the team’s main facility to be informed of all the details according to Jay Glazer of FOX sports.
The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Carolina Panthers at Arrowhead at 1:00 PM ET Sunday.
