Bosher Brings Versatility to Falcons Special Teams

By Chrissy Kohrt

Rookie punter / kicker Matt Bosher is looking forward to finding a home with the Atlanta Falcons, who he sees as a “close knit team, good team, great quarterback, great offense.  It’s a good team coming back from last year, and last year they did pretty well.”

The Falcons focused on special teams with their sixth round pick, taking Bosher out of the University of Miami.  An All ACC punter and 2010 Special Teams Player of the Year, Bosher punts, kicks off, and flattens punt returners with the voraciousness of a linebacker.  Les Snead, Atlanta’s savvy Director of Player Personnel, may be saving a roster spot by finding one of the few athletes capable of handling both punts and kick offs.

The numbers back him up. He made 84.9 percent of his career field goal attempts (4-for-5 from 50+yards), and averaged over 40 yards per punt all four years as the Hurricane’s kicker – landing 70 of his 234 punts inside the 20 yard line. Extra point attempts weigh in at a whopping 97.7 percent success rate.

Canes fans say Bosher has a diehard love for the sport, a strong work ethic, and “earth shattering linebacker hits.”  If there are any doubters out there, they haven’t watched tape.
