Officials and small business owners in the 32 areas where the NFL maintains franchises files an amicus brief today supporting the district courts decision to enjoin the lockout. The signatories include many state representatives and senators as well as business owners such as restauranteurs.
They stand “united in the view that the NFL’s lockout threatens to cause serious harm to working people, business owners, and local governments.” They argue that “Surely the public interest weighs strongly against allowing the NFL to padlock the stadium doors that were purchased with taxpayer dollars on the understanding that they would remain open for business.”
The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is scheduled to hear arguments June 3 on the legality of the ongoing lockout.
