Foxworth Elected New President of NFL Players Association

MARCO ISLAND, Fla.—The NFL Players Association has a new president.

Succeeding the outgoing president, Kevin Mawae, will be Domonique Foxworth. Foxworth was unanimously elected by his peers during a vote Sunday at the annual Board of Player Representatives Meetings.

While any Player Representative could run for the position of president, Foxworth’s name had been floated previously as a possible replacement for his friend Mawae, whose two-term run ends with a new labor deal in place over the next nine years. Foxworth, a veteran cornerback, is eager to serve NFL players in his new post.

Having served as an Executive Committee member and a Player Representative since 2007, he was elected in 2008 as the youngest vice president of the NFLPA Executive Committee. Foxworth played a key role in CBA negotiations on the players’ side last year. He, along with Jeff Saturday, attended every negotiation session during the league’s lockout. Although he came up short in his bid for the top position in 2010, Foxworth is up for the task, now that his time has come.

After entering the league in 2005 with the Denver Broncos, Foxworth played for Denver for three seasons before joining the Atlanta Falcons, where he spent one season. In 2009, Foxworth signed with Baltimore. He missed the 2010 season with a torn ACL and was placed on injured reserve early in the 2011 season.
