With the biggest sports day of the year coming, players are already settled in at their places in Indianapolis and the New York Giants arrived talking all business. The team has been able to play at a high level for the last couple weeks in the regular season, and then at an extreme level in the playoffs.
ProPlayerInsiders caught up with Travis Beckum, TE for the Giants, to talk about the upcoming game that will be his first Super Bowl appearance.
“I’m excited about this game, and I wish that it could come sooner,” said Beckum. “This is a once in a lifetime thing. Not saying that we won’t go back, obviously that would be great, but this is my first time doing this so I’m going to enjoy it.”
The team knows that protecting Eli Manning is going to be one of their biggest goals throughout this game. In the Giants last game against the 49ers, Eli was sacked six times and hit 12, taking the worst beating of any game this season. Beckum only caught 5 balls this season, but is used more as a blocking tight end for the Giants, which will be well needed against the Patriots defense.
“They (New England’s front seven) are great, they’re experienced, they have better ends on that team so obviously they are going to be looking to put pressure on Eli, so we are going to have to stop that obviously.”
It’s no joke when speaking to any of the Giants about how they feel about this trip to Indianapolis for the Super Bowl. Tom Coughlin as we know is one of the toughest coaches in the NFL, and if you ask any of his players, they will all tell you that this is a business trip. They all know that this game is the biggest Sunday of their life until the next opportunity comes by.
