With the Miami Dolphins getting their first victory after several close games, the Indianapolis Colts are now the only remaining winless team in the NFL. And they don’t appear to be getting any closer to a win, or even to fielding a competitive team.
The Colts lost to the Atlanta Falcons 31-7, with their only points coming on a six-yard interception return for a touchdown by Jerraud Powers.
The Colts offense continued its mastery of futility, with 186 yards of total offense. Starting QB Curtis Painter had 98 yards passing while going 13 of 27 with no TDs and 1 INT. Backup Dan Orlovsky came in and added 20 passing yards to get them over 100.
The Colts never even made it into the red zone, and only the interception return prevented a shutout. They started the game with a fumble and an interception on their first two drives, then had nine consecutive punts.
On the brighter side, the defense only gave up half as many points as they did to the New Orleans Saints two weeks ago.
Colts owner Jim Irsay tweeted after the game, “We will never accept this kind of chronic losing…it’s an unwelcome visitor,that we will not tolerate.” It’s nice to hear some fire from Irsay after weeks of saying they “have a plan” but what are they planning to do at this point?
The Colts have not even been competitive. They are ranked in the bottom 10 in the league by virtually every statistic. They have given up over 31 points per game and have been outscored by 155 points this season, that’s an average losing margin of over 17 points per game.
The Detroit Lions better get ready for some company. Their record of being the only team to go 0-16 is in serious jeopardy.
