DBacks’ Tie the Series with San Diego with Commanding Win

After already winning every series they’ve played thus far, the Arizona Diamondbacks looked to keep that rolling as they welcomed the San Diego Padres to town at Chase Field in downtown Phoenix. The Padres won the first game of the series, but the next game was a perfect display of how this Diamondbacks team handles previous games. Here’s the recap:

With the recent injury of Taijuan Walker, as it was announced that he would under go Tommy John surgery, the Diamondbacks would assign Matt Koch to start the game. Tyson Ross would start for the Padres. Ross was on fire that night as he pitched a no-hitter all the way until the 8th inning where the Padres had been leading 1-0 until Devon Marrero would score on an RBI to tie the game at 1, but in the 9th inning the Padres would score 3 runs and win the opening-series game 4-1. The next game, the spotlight would shift performers.

28 year-old and birthday-boy Zack Godley would get the start for the DBacks and Clayton Richard would start for the Padres. With both team’s offenses catching fire by the 2nd inning, as the Padres already led 2-1, the Zack Godley was up to bat, at a chance to tie the game at 2 with a man on 3rd base, but a line drive up the middle would bring the man home and Godley had an RBI on his birthday; the game was tied at 2. A.J. Pollock would then hit a homerun to make the game 3-2 Dbacks. We go to more action in the bottom of the 6th inning where the Dbacks had guys on 1st and 3rd base, with a 3-2 lead still, and Daniel Descalso batting, where he would hit one up the middle and score an RBI to make it 4-2 Dbacks. Paul Goldschimdt would score an RBI himself as he just missed a homerun , but it bounced off the wall, which Katel Marte plenty of time to race home, and enough for Goldy to make it to 3rd base, and make it 5-2 Dbacks. Pollock’s offensive ability would shine once again as he hit one, again, up the middle to bring Goldschmidt home and make it 6-2 Dbacks. That would conclude all the offense for that game and the Diamondbacks would tie the series at 1.

Zack Godley had himself a night as he pitched, through 5.1 innings, 8 strikeouts, with only 6 hits and 2 earned runs against. Pollock had a homerun and 2 RBIs to top off his night. Paul Goldschmidt had an RBI and a run.

This game has more meaning behind it than it appears to show. It shows that this Diamondbacks team never quits and that they always keep moving forward, never letting past games get to them, which is a brilliant mentality to have if they’re planning on going all the way this year. It also shows the fight this team has. Although it has been shown numerous amounts of times this season already, the fact that they can replicate that effort night in and night out, shows that this team could be a serious threat to the division and the league.

The series would be up fro grabs on March 22nd where the Dbacks look to win their 7th consecutive series this season.
