Seattle, WA- The Seattle Seahawks once again had a slow start to start the game off against the (1-2) Indianapolis Colts, but the defense in the second half crushed the Colts to earn a 46-18 victory.
In the first half, Seattle’s QB Russell Wilson was sacked twice, and had trouble getting the ball to his receivers thanks to the Colts neutralize Seattle’s ability to run their up-tempo offense. In the first half, Seattle had a total of 140 yards, while the Colts had around 240 total yards. Both teams struggled with getting the ball down the field, because of the pressure that their defense applied.
Seattle drew first blood with a field goal to go up 3- 0 over the Colts, but after a punt that put Seattle deep in their own end zone, the Colts’ defense came up big after they sacked Wilson in the end zone for a safety. The score was 3-2 until Colts Rookie QB Jacoby Brissett threw a pick, which was a run back for a touchdown. After the field goal was good, the score was in favor of Seattle 10-2.
On the next series, Brissett forgot about the pick 6 and marched his team down the field and scored a touchdown before the half, making it 15-10. With only 45 seconds left and a couple of timeouts, Seattle marched down the field to get a potential score before the half, but Blair Walsh missed a field goal that went wide right.
The halftime score was 15-10.
However, in the second half, Seattle’s defense turned the heat on Brissett and they forced turnovers that blow the game wide-open. Seattle outscored the Colts 36-3 in the second half, which happened to be the biggest point deficit in Seahawks history. The Colts’ nightmare started when Bobby Wagner recovered a fumble, picked it up, and scored to extend the lead to seven at the start of the half.
After a quick three and out, Seattle started to pick up the pace and scored on a 30-yard scamper with J.D. McKissic and also a pitch and catch to him on the next series of plays. A few more costly turnovers cost the Colts and Seattle took advantage of the opportunity.
Despite the moral victory, the Seahawks lost Jeremy Lane with a hip injury, Cliff Avril to a neck injury and rookie sensation Chris Carson with an apparent leg injury. These are key injuries that could hurt the Seahawks late in the season. It will be something to watch over the few weeks with these players on IR.
