Colts 2017 Open Training Camp

Colts Camp

Indianapolis, In- It was a huge crowd that came out and supported the Indianapolis Colts Saturday evening at their second open training camp at Warren Central High School. Many fans came out to see if star quarterback Andrew Luck, who has recently been dealing with a shoulder injury, was going to hit the field. Unfortunately Luck was not able to fully practice but he did dress out with his red jersey and completed physical therapy on the sidelines with his other injured teammates.

As Training camp started the Colts leaned on quarterback Scott Tolzien who is filling in for Luck. Even though the offense was struggling with catches in practice Tolzien was able to throw phenomenal passes to Colts top receiver TY Hilton. Rookie and 15th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Malik Hooker did not participate in the open training camp, and was also doing physical therapy. Veteran Frank Gore who is the top Colts player in rushing yards had a good practice as he made a few touchdowns. Linebacker John Simon who just signed with the Colts in March showed that he could bring different skills to the team as he played in the offensive backfield showing leadership and being a team player throughout practice.

Open training camp was not all about the players Saturday night; one new comer was able to join the Colts on the field for one of the last plays of the day. According to reports 10-year-old Michael Dieter was only 5 days old when he had open-heart surgery, but the way Tolzien handed the ball to Dieter to score a touchdown, you would have never noticed he went through such a traumatic event.

This season the Colts should be able to put up a fight and hold their own. Hopefully the injured players will get better and head back on the field to join their teammates and contribute even more to make an amazing season worthwhile.
