Miami Dolphins fall to the Tennessee Titans 30-17

On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins began the start of a rare four-game homestand. While the team was looking to bounce back from their loss 10 days ago against the Cincinnati Bengals, things certainly didn’t go the way the team had planned.

Miami (1-4) lost to the Tennessee Titans (2-3) 30-17 as their offense never got on track. Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill finished 12 of 16 for 191 yards and two interceptions.  Tennessee sacked Tannehill six times on Sunday. Jay Ajayi rushed for 42 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

Miami was outgained by the Titans 398 yards to 200. Tennessee also had 23 first downs compared to Miami’s eight.

Jarvis Landry was held to three catches for 28 yards. DeVante Parker’s lone catch came on a 50 reception from Tannehill.

Tennessee had a huge day running the football as the team finished with 232 yards on the ground. DeMarco Murray finished with 121 yards rushing. Marcus Mariota also chipped in 60 yards rushing and a touchdown run.

Delanie Walker also had a nice day for the Titans as he finished with five catches for 66 yards and a touchdown.

Linebackers Derrick Morgan and Brian Orakpo and defensive lineman, Jurrell Casey each recorded two sacks apiece.

Miami only two touchdowns on the day both as a result of long plays. In the second quarter, Jakeem Grant returned a 74-yard punt for a touchdown to get the Dolphins on the scoreboard.

Later on in the second quarter, Tannehill completed a 58-yard pass to Damien Williams. That long pass play set up a four-yard touchdown run by Ajayi. That would prove to be the Dolphins only touchdowns on the afternoon.

Later on in the fourth quarter to pull away, the Titans increased their lead to 30-17 when former Dolphin receiver Rishard Matthews capped off a nine play, 66-yard drive.

Next week, the Dolphins will play host to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Hard Rock Stadium. Tennessee will return to Nashville as the Cleveland Browns will visit Nissan Stadium.
