The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have re-signed RB Shaun Draughn to a one-year deal.
“Shaun did a heck of a job for us last year despite joining the team in the middle of the season,” said 49ers general manager Trent Baalke. “He certainly earned the respect of everyone in our organization for the way he handled himself, both on and off the field, and we are excited to have him back.”
Draughn (5-11, 205) originally signed with the 49ers as a free agent on November 2, 2015. He started six games for the team last season and registered career highs in rushes (76), rushing yards (263), receptions (25) and receiving yards (175), prior to being placed on the Injured Reserve List with a knee injury. Draughn also saw action in five games with the Cleveland Browns in 2015, before being waived by the team on October 20, 2015.
Throughout his career, Draughn has appeared in 41 games (six starts) and registered 151 carries for 527 yards and three touchdowns. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Washington Redskins, in 2011. Throughout his five-year career, Draughn has spent time with Washington (2011), Kansas City (2011-12), Baltimore (2013) and Indianapolis (2013). In 2014, he appeared in two games with the Chicago Bears, four games with the San Diego Chargers and four games with the Cleveland Browns.
A 28-year-old native of Tarboro, NC, Draughn attended the University of North Carolina, where he appeared in 44 games, and finished his career with 2,070 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns along with 50 receptions for 268 receiving yards and one touchdown.
