Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been named this year’s FedEx Ground Player of the Year this evening at the NFL Honors Award show in San Francisco, CA.
Peterson posted a league-leading 1,485 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, marking the fifth time in his nine NFL seasons he has won the award.
“I just wanted to say its an honor to be voted by the fans as the FedEx Ground Player of the Year,” Peterson said. “The one thing that I love the most is the donation that they give to the Red Cross in Indianapolis, giving back to the community. That’s more important than this trophy to me.”
Peterson was named the FedEx Ground Player of the Week twice during the 2015 campaign. The first came in a Vikings win over the Oakland Raiders, 30-14 in which Peterson went off for 203 yards on 26 attempts, including an 80-yard rushing score.
The second came in another win, this time 20-10 over the Atlanta Falcons. Peterson had 158 yards on 29 carries and added two scores.
The Palestine, Texas, native has won the NFL rushing title three times (‘08, ’12, ’15) in his nine year career. Peterson ranks 17th on the NFL’s all-time rushing list with 11,675 career rushing yards (4.9 yards per rush) and has recorded 97 rushing TDs.
The six-time Pro Bowler has been named the FedEx Ground player of the year five times following the 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2015 seasons and won 16 FedEx Ground Player of the Week awards.
