CHIEFS P DUSTIN COLQUITT NAMED AFC PLAYERS OF WEEK 11

Quarterback BROCK OSWEILER of the Denver Broncos, defensive end J.J. WATT of the Houston Texans and punter DUSTIN COLQUITT of the Kansas City Chiefs are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played the 11th week of the 2015 season (November 19, November 22-23), the NFL announced today.

OFFENSE: QB BROCK OSWEILER, DENVER BRONCOS

·         Osweiler completed 20 of 27 passes (74.1 percent) for 250 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions for a 127.1 passer rating in the Broncos’ 17-15 win at Chicago.

·         He connected with wide receiver DEMARYIUS THOMAS on a career-long 48-yard touchdown pass on the Broncos’ first possession of the game.

·         Early in the fourth quarter, Osweiler threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to wide receiverCODY LATIMER to extend the Broncos’ lead to 17-9.

·         Osweiler, who turned 25 years old on Sunday, is the only quarterback in the Super Bowl era to make his first career start and win on his birthday.

·         His 127.1 passer rating led all AFC players in Week 11 and is the second-highest ever by a Broncos quarterback in his first start for the club (PEYTON MANNING, 129.2 on September 9, 2012 against Pittsburgh).

·         Osweiler, who was selected in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft, is the first quarterback drafted by the Broncos to win his starting debut with the team since GARY KUBIAK in 1983.

  • In his fourth season from Arizona State, this is Osweiler’s first career Player of the Week Award.
  • He is the second player to win an AFC Offensive Player of the Week honor in his first career start this season, joining Tennessee rookie quarterback MARCUS MARIOTA (Kickoff Weekend).

DEFENSE: DE J.J. WATT, HOUSTON TEXANS

·         Watt had eight tackles, including five tackles for a loss, and two sacks in the Texans’ 24-17 win against the New York Jets.

·         Both of Watt’s sacks came on third down and led to punts by the Jets. His second sack, which came in the third quarter, helped the Texans regain possession and preceded a six-play, 63-yard drive that culminated in a touchdown that gave Houston a 24-10 lead.

·         He now has 19 career games with at least two sacks, tying Pro Football Hall of FamerRICHARD DENT for the second-most of any player in his first five NFL seasons. Only Hall of Famer REGGIE WHITE (24) had more multi-sack games in his first five seasons since the statistic became official in 1982.

·         Watt, who leads the league with 11.5 sacks, has registered at least 10 sacks in four consecutive seasons, the longest active streak in the NFL.

·         In his fifth season from Wisconsin, this is Watt’s fifth career Player of the Week Award and first since Week 11 of last season.

·         Watt’s five Player of the Week Awards are the most in franchise history.

SPECIAL TEAMS: P DUSTIN COLQUITT, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

  • Colquitt punted five times for a net average of 40.6 yards, placing four inside his opponent’s 20-yard line in the Chiefs’ 33-3 win at San Diego.
  • He placed punts at San Diego’s seven, six, 11 and one-yard lines during the contest.
  • Colquitt and the Chiefs’ coverage unit did not allow any punt-return yardage by the Chargers and helped contribute to the Chargers’ average starting field position of their own 15.4-yard line during the contest.
  • In his 11th season from Tennessee, this is Colquitt’s first career Player of the Week Award.
  • Colquitt joins LOUIE AGUIAR (Week 5, 1995) as the only Chiefs punters to win a Special Teams Player of the Week Award.

Quarterback CAM NEWTON of the Carolina Panthers, linebacker LAVONTE DAVID of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and kicker MASON CROSBY of the Green Bay Packers are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played the 11th week of the 2015 season (November 19, 22-23), the NFL announced today.

OFFENSE: QB CAM NEWTON, CAROLINA PANTHERS

  • Newton tied the franchise single-game record with five touchdown passes in the Panthers’ 44-16 win over Washington. With the victory, Carolina improved to 10-0 for the first time in club history.
  • He became the first Panthers quarterback to throw four touchdown passes in a first half and the performance marked his first career game with at least four touchdown passes.
  • Newton’s five touchdown passes went to five different players.
  • In his career, he has 102 passing touchdowns and 39 rushing touchdowns and is the only player in NFL history with at least 100 passing touchdowns and 25 rushing touchdowns in a player’s first five seasons.
  • Newton finished the game with a 123.3 passer rating, his third consecutive game with a 100+ rating.
  • In his fifth season from Auburn, this is Newton’s fifth career Player of the Week Award and second this season (Week 9).
  • Newton’s five Offensive Player of the Week Awards are the most in franchise history. He is the only Panthers player to win five Player of the Week Awards in his first five NFL seasons.
  • He is the only Panthers quarterback to win the award multiple times.

DEFENSE: LB LAVONTE DAVID, TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

  • David had two interceptions, including a 20-yard touchdown, and six tackles in the Buccaneers’ 45-17 win at Philadelphia.
  • His two interceptions are tied for the most by a Buccaneers linebacker in a game and David is the only linebacker in franchise history to have two such games.
  • Over the past 20 seasons, David and Pro Football Hall of Famer DERRICK BROOKS are the only linebackers in team history to have two interceptions in a game.
  • This season, David is the only player with at least 80 tackles (87), two interceptions (two), two sacks (two) and a forced fumble (one).
  • In his fourth year from Nebraska, this is David’s second career Player of the Week Award (Week 12, 2013).
  • David joins Brooks (six) and HARDY NICKERSON (three) as the only linebackers in team history to win multiple Defensive Player of the Week Awards.

SPECIAL TEAMS: K MASON CROSBY, GREEN BAY PACKERS

·         Crosby converted all five field-goal attempts (42, 47, 40, 42 and 52 yards) and had a league-best 16 points in the Packers’ 30-13 win at Minnesota.

·         All five of Crosby’s field goals were from at least 40 yards. He is the first player in NFL history to make at least five field goals in a game without a miss, with each attempt coming from 40+ yards.

·         Crosby’s five field goals tied the franchise single-game record.

·         It marked the second career game in which Crosby converted all five field-goal attempts (October 6, 2013).

·         In his ninth season from Colorado, this is Crosby’s sixth career Player of the Week Award and first since 2013 (Week 5).

·         Crosby’s six Special Teams Player of the Week Awards are the most in franchise history.
