What do we as Americans appreciate day in and day out? Well, besides waking up and breathing and looking forward to what might come of the day, it is our freedom. Our freedom from those who have served for our country in the past and currently. From those who have served in all branches of the military, taking no branch for granted. From those who put their lives on the line so we can live freely.
Our freedom comes from the veterans of every military branch and NASCAR always goes above and beyond showing gratitude for these veterans. Tracks honor, drivers honor, teams honor and the league honors. NASCAR incorporates NASCAR: An American Salute, which features on and off the track activities showing appreciation and support for the veterans. It is a seven week program each year starting with the Coca-Cola 600 over Memorial Day Weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway and ending at Daytona International Speedway with the Coke Zero 400 on Independence Day Weekend.
How were veterans remembered for the Coca-Cola 600? Instead of the names of the drivers on the windshield of each car, the names will be those of fallen soldiers servicing our country. A great remembrance.
On Wednesday, August 12th, one team is taking the support to another level by opening their doors to veterans. Hendrick Motorsports is inviting veterans to a Veterans Coffee, where all veterans, regardless of age will come together enjoying company, doughnuts and coffee. This is part of We Honor Veterans program and although there is no guarantee Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., or Kasey Kahne will be in attendance, by opening the doors to the Hendrick Motorsports Team Center building, Hendrick Motorsports is putting on display an even greater way NASCAR those who give us our freedom.
So remember, when taking a step back and remembering our freedom, remember how important our veterans are. NASCAR will continue to honor the service of our veterans, so you should as well.
