Every year, one of the biggest acknowledgements for the upcoming NFL season is being put on the front of the upcoming year’s NFL Madden cover. This year the New York Giants star Wide Receiver, rookie Odell Beckham Jr, will be the one that graces the cover for Madden NFL 16. He will become the youngest person, at age 22, to ever be on the cover of the very popular video game. Beckham finished 1st in the voting for the cover over Rob Gronkowski. He will also be the 1st New York Giant to finish on the cover.
Beckham, the offensive player of the year, finished the 2014-2015 season with 91 catches for 1305 yards and 12 TDs despite playing only 12 games this season. His numerous circus catches and one handed stabs pushed him into the spotlight. His pregame highlight catch reel became a regular on ESPN, Fox, NBC, and CBS. And his leaned back, fully extended, one handed catch against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football was not only as the catch of the year, but possibly the greatest regular season catch of all time.
There has been a very well known myth regarding the cover of the video game, that whoever is on the cover either has a bad year or gets hurt. While this has been the case with numerous guys, Richard Sherman, who was on last years cover, went on to have a great year and was a top three cornerback in the sport. Beckham will hope to repeat what Sherman did with his team did, which was would be to help the New York Giants go to the Superbowl. The New York Giants and their fans will be hoping for the same.
