NFL Remembers Sean Taylor #RIP

Sean-Taylor-meast WAS 350x350Today would have been former Washington Redskins’ free safety Sean Taylor’s thirty second birthday. Taylor’s life was tragically cut short in November of 2007 when he was killed by burglars at his Palmetto Bay home. The NFL, and Pro Player Insiders, remembers Taylor on this day.

Taylor was a standout safety who played college ball at the University of Miami. Taylor was drafted by the Redskins in the first round, 5th overall selection, of the 2004 NFL Draft. He was on his way to super stardom when he was killed.

During his four year NFL career, he was voted to the Pro Bowl twice (2006,2007) and was named All Pro in 2007.

He is survived by his former girlfriend Jackie Garcia and their daughter also named Jackie. On November 30, 2007, the Redskins announced a memorial trust fund would be set up on his daughter Jackie’s behalf. The Sean Taylor Memorial Trust Fund was endorsed and approved by Jackie Garcia.

Perhaps its fitting that the fourth man implicated in Taylor’s murder plead guilty in a courtroom today. Charles Woodlaw was an accomplice in the crime that took Taylor’s life and he will spend the next 30 years behind bars. Two other co-defendants previously took their cases to trial where they lost.

The ringleader of the bunch Jason Mitchell will serve a life sentence for the murder. Eric Rivera was a teen, only seventeen years old, when the murder took place. He will spend nearly 60  years behind bars. Another co-defendant, Venjah Hunt, turned state’s witness and plead guilty and will serve 29 years in prison.

There is one remaining co-defendant, Wardlow’s cousin Timmy Brown, who is still awaiting trial.
