Boobie Dixon named AFC Special Teams Player of Week

Running back BOOBIE DIXON of the Buffalo Bills was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for games played in the 12th week of the 2014 season (November 20, 23-24), the NFL announced today.

  • Dixon blocked a punt that was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown in the Bills’ 38-3 win against the New York Jets at Detroit’s Ford Field on Monday night.
  • In the third quarter, Dixon blocked RYAN QUIGLEY’s punt at the goal line and linebacker MANNY LAWSON recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown that provided the Bills with a 24-3 lead.
  • Dixon, who also blocked a punt in Week 2 against Miami, is the first Bills player with two blocked punts in a season sinceSTEVE TASKER in 1990.
  • He also rushed for 54 yards on 12 carries (4.5 average) and capped the scoring with a career-long 30-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
  • In his fifth season from Mississippi State, this is Dixon’s first career Player of the Week Award.
  • He is the third Bills player to be named Special Teams Player of the Week this season, joining kicker DAN CARPENTER(Kickoff Weekend) and running back-kick returner C.J. SPILLER (Week 2).
