Mike Scifres of the San Diego Chargers has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, the NFL announced today.

- Scifres punted nine times for 380 yards (42.2 average) and placed five inside the 12-yard line in the Chargers’ 13-6 win against Oakland.
- Scifres, who averaged 41.4 net yards per punt, placed punts at the two, four, six, eight and 12-yard lines, contributing to the Raiders’ average starting drive position for the game of their own 18-yard line.
- His five punts inside the 20-yard line, which tied a career-high, led all NFL players in Week 11.
- In his 12th season from Western Illinois, this is Scifres’ second career Player of the Week Award and first since 2007 (Week 8).
- He is the second Charger to be named Special Teams Player of the Week this season, joining kicker NICK NOVAK (Week 4).
