With the 24th pick in the second round of the NFL draft, the New England Patriots selected Cal running back Shane Vereen.
Analysis: The Patriots like to rotate backs, and Vereen is a guy who can slot into that rotation. He’s a smaller back who could fill a role similar to the one Kevin Faulk used to fill if he shows enough pass-catching ability.
