Lions Name Mike Zdebski their HS Coach of the Week

Detroit, MI—The Detroit Lions have named Mike Zdebski of Walled Lake Western High School the week eight recipient of the 2013 High School Football Coach of the Week Program.

Coach Zdebski led his Warriors to a 45-27 victory over Grand Blanc on October 18 to win the Lakes Conference of the Kensington Lakes Activities Association and move to 8-0 on the season.  In his 27th year of coaching, Zdebski has been at Walled Lake Western for 21 seasons while serving as head coach for 16 seasons.  Zdebski has posted a career record of 146-64 and has led the Warriors to 13 state playoff appearances, including a Division 1 State Championship in 1999.  This Friday, Walled Lake Western, ranked No. 4 in Division 2, will look to go 9-0 as they travel to Northville to take on the 7-1 Mustangs.

Each winning coach throughout the regular season will receive a $1,000 donation to his school’s football program.  At the conclusion of the 2013 Michigan High School Football season, the Lions will also select the High School Football Coach of the Year.  This season’s Coach of the Year will receive a $2,000 donation to his team’s football program.

In addition to the monetary award, all winners receive a certificate signed by Lions’ head coach Jim Schwartz and National Football League (NFL) commissioner Roger Goodell.  Winning coaches also receive a personalized game ball and a Detroit Lions “Coach of the Week” hat.

Currently in its’ 17th year, the Detroit Lions High School Coach of the Week program has awarded $312,000 to high school football programs throughout the state of Michigan.
