The former Nebraska Husker played wide receiver in college but after he was selected in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft by Washington he switched to tight end. He had played out the final year of his rookie deal and was scheduled to hit free agency. With former Florida Gator star Jordan Reed unable to stay healthy, keeping Niles was a priority for the Redskins.
Paul caught 39 passes for 507 yards and a touchdown last year in Washington and figures to be a key player in the offense as they try to further Robert Griffin III’s development.
