VIDEO - In two games so far this season, Denver Broncos rookie and number two overall draft pick Von Miller is already making his presence felt on the field.
In his first game, Miller forced a Jacoby Ford fumble on the first play from scrimmage, giving the Broncos the ball and excellent field position. In his second game, Miller recorded his first career sack on Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton and celebrated with a traditional Mile High Salute.
Broncos head coach John Fox said Friday, “He’s a rookie that’s learning and getting better every week. We look for everybody on our team to improve this week over last week, so he’s no different.”
In two games so far this season, he has made 8 tackles, 2 passes defensed, plus the forced fumble and sack. Now, with Elvis Dumervil slowed with a shoulder injury, all eyes turn to Miller to see if he can be Denver’s top pass rusher. Dumervil led the league with 17 sacks in 2009 before missing most of last year with injuries.
For Miller you can expect that he is handling the pressure just like he has everything else so far. Working hard, staying focused and being true to himself.
Dumervil will not play in Sunday’s game against Tennessee so Titans left tackle Michael Roos has been preparing to face Miller.
“[Miller's] extremely quick,” Roos said. “His first step is what’s giving people problems. He’s obviously a great athlete. Part of it is a young guy, fresh legs and all that kind of stuff. But he’s also able to use his quickness to be able to get low and get underneath a lot of guys, and that’s given people a lot of problems.”
Miller is, a 6-foot-3, 246-pounder who ran a 4.53 40-yard dash. He recorded 17 sacks as a junior at Texas A&M and followed that performance by earning the Butkus Award as the best linebacker in college football as a senior. Needless to say, Miller is a tough match for any player.
