The Patriots and QB Tom Brady have agreed to a 3-year contract extension. Brady is now signed in New England through 2017. He'll be 40 years old when the deal expires, essentially guaranteeing that Brady will retire a Patriot. What's more interesting is that the new part of the contract pays Brady "just" $27 million -- or $9 million per year. That's significantly less than the going rate for top QBs. Remember that Joe Flacco is asking for something in the $20-million-per-year range. The move gives the Pats some much-needed salary cap relief. They're expected to save about $15 million against the cap over the next 2 years. So Brady is locked in with New England, and his team will be able to spend more on free agents. The news gives Brady's dynasty stock a nice boost.
