Titans Day 1 Free Agency Roundup

The NFL free agency period started with a bang and the Titans made a move early on with the signing of former Kansas City Chiefs offensive weapon Dexter McCluster to a 3 year $12 million dollar contract with $4.5 million of it guaranteed. We take a look at the Titans Day 1 free agency roundup.

McCluster is officially listed as a wide receiver but can play running back and is a threat in the return game. A second round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2010, he has been used as both a wide receiver and a running back. He also has return skills which is an area where the Titans initially struggled in 2013.

The Titans also reached an one year deal with returner Leon Washington. Washington signed with the Titans in Week 13 of the 2013 season and he finished the year with 6 punt returns for 78 yards and 16 kickoff returns for 481 yards including a 95 yard return. He stabilized a position where the Titans lacked consistency early on.

The Titans are hosting former San Francisco running back Anthony Dixon and former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman/nose tackle Al Woods on Wednesday. Dixon is a hard nose between the tackles runner and Woods can play nose tackle so they fit a need for the Titans. With only 6 draft picks, and several holes to fill, expect the Titans to utilize free agency to help shore up some areas while they focus on the draft to bring in impact players.

The Titans are also showing interest in former Steelers linebacker Lamarr Woodley and former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Jason Hatcher. Hatcher is visiting the Seattle Seahawks but is expected to visit the Titans next.
