Tebow Played Second Despite Injury

Chalk up one more story for the Tim Tebow Legend, which seems to get larger even in defeat.  Tebow finished the playoff game against New England despite a third quarter hit that resulted in torn cartilage in his ribs, a bruised lung and fluid buildup in his chest, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Tebow must have endured incredible pain throughout the fourth quarter, but stayed in the game to try to rally his team.  Of course, after Tom Brady’s blowout performance which included 5 TD passes in the first half alone, the game was well out of reach.  The Patriots took a 35-7 lead into halftime, and won the game going away 45-10.

Some might question why Tebow was left in the game, but with what he’s shown in character and commitment through the course of the year, he certainly wouldn’t have opted to take himself out.  If it was clear that he was injured, the coaches should have overridden his preference once the game was out of reach, to make sure that he was healthy and didn’t exacerbate the injury.

Fortunately, the report states the Tebow should be ready to go into his offseason workout program on schedule, and it shouldn’t affect John Elway’s statement that Tebow will enter training camp as the starter for next season.  But we’ll see how Tebow’s offseason goes, and if he can continue adding to the legend next year.
