Super Bowl Update: Patriots Take Lead 10-9 Into Halftime

Through halftime, the Super Bowl has lived up to its first name, as the New England Patriots have taken a 1 point lead into the intermission with a 96-yard touchdown drive, scoring just before the intermission.

A 10-9 lead is not the shoot out many people were anticipating, but the game has been close and hard fought.  The Giants dominated most of the first 25 minutes, scoring on a safety on an intentional grounding penalty in the end zone on Brady on the Patriots first offensive series, and then following that up with a 78-yard touchdown drive on their second drive to go up 9-0.

The second quarter belonged to the Patriots, as they fought back with a field goal early in the second and an exceptional Super Bowl record –tying 96-yard drive to score with 0:15 left in the half on a 4-yard pass from Brady to Danny Woodhead.   It was Woodhead’s first TD of the entire season.

Both quarterbacks have played well, with Brady finishing the first half 15 of 18 for 147 yards and 1 TD, and Manning 13 of 17 for 120 yards and 1 TD.  Both quarterbacks have efficiency ratings above 110 and there have been no turnovers in the game.

The Patriots will receive the kickoff to start the second half.
