Steve Gleason Announces Saints Third Round Pick

In an emmotional moment that had Radiocity Music Hall on its feet, former Saints’ safety Steve Gleason took to the podium in his wheelchair to announce the Saints third round selection.

Gleason, once a prominent player for New Orleans and fan favorite, is most known for blocking a punt in the first game in the Louisiana Superdome leading to a touchdown for the Saints and marking the moment as the point New Orleans was officially back on its feet after being rocked by Hurricane Katrina.

The moment has become so immortalised that a statue of Gleason’s block has been erected outside the now Mercedes Benz Dome.

However after his playing days in 2011, Gleason was diagnosed with ALS or most commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. In October of that same year, he began filming a video journal to give his son, Rivers, an idea of who his father was.

Confined to a wheelchair and speaking through his computer, Gleason announced the New Orleans Saints pick Terron Armstead, offensive tackle out of Arkansas Pine-Bluff.

All of Radiocity stood in unison applauding a man of strength, of persaverence, of inspiration.
