Shurmur Non-committal on Future of Hillis, McCoy

Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur was very non-committal on his two biggest offensive stars this past season in comments to the media this week.

Shurmur declined to commit to Colt McCoy as his starting quarterback in 2012, and he declined to comment on the team’s plans at quarterback.

He also said he had a “very good conversation” with Peyton Hillis in his season-ending interview with the player, but declined to comment on whether Hillis would be back.  Hillis’ contract negotiations were a huge point of contention early in the season, and Hillis was nagged with injuries all season that prevented him from repeating the type of performance he had in 2010.

The Browns have the fourth overall pick in the NFL Draft this year, and while the Colts are believed to be leaning to Andrew Luck at number 1, the Browns would have the option to address one of these two needs with a pick that high.  Robert Griffin III, believed to be the second rated QB on most boards, could certainly drop to them as the second and third picks belong to the Rams and Vikings, and both believe they have their quarterbacks of the future with Sam Bradford and Christian Ponder.
