Seahawks Wearing Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Seattle Seahawks will recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month this Sunday, October 12, during the Seahawks game vs. the Cowboys at CenturyLink Field to promote the League’s month-long A Crucial Catch campaign. The campaign is focused on the importance of annual screenings, especially for women who are 40-and-older. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:25 p.m. Touchdown City and all gates open at 10 a.m.

The local chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) will distribute 30,000 pink ribbons to fans as they enter the stadium. Representatives from the ZTA, Puget Sound affiliate of Susan G. Komen and the American Cancer Society will have booths in Touchdown City to share information.

The Sea Gals will use neon pink poms, wear neon pink boots and honor local survivors during a halftime celebration featuring more than 275 local high school dance teams from eight area schools, including: Eastlake, Hazen, Kamiak, Kentridge, Kentwood, Thomas Jefferson, Tumwater, and Union.

The national anthem will be sung by breast cancer survivor Bridgette Hempstead.  Bridgette is the founder and CEO of Cierra Sisters, an African American Breast Cancer organization designed to provide advocacy and education for women’s health rights.  Bridgette was diagnosed on her 35th birthday and is now an 18-year survivor.

Breast cancer awareness elements featured during the game will include: on-field pink ribbon stencils, pink goal post padding in both end zones, pink sideline caps for coaches and team sideline personnel and pink caps and pins for game officials. Some players will wear pink elements including shoes, pin cleats, wristbands, gloves, helmet decals, Captains’ patches, sideline towels and quarterback towels.  All pink game-worn items will be auctioned off at NFLAuction.com with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.
