Seahawks’ Okung to Host Football Camp and Community Fun Day

Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle, Russell Okung, is taking time away from the field and making a difference in his community. Okung is set to host the 2nd Annual Okung Football Camp and 76 Fun Day Saturday, May 19, 2012 at George Bush High School in Fort Bend, TX.

The camp is a youth football and cheerleading camp for kids ages 12-17 to help kids learn and develop the fundamentals of each sport, leadership skills on and off the field, team skills and sportsmanship. Okung hosts the event as part of his Russell Okung UP Foundation is a  Bush High School alum.  He will be joined by other area football coaches, community volunteers and notable NFL athletes such as last year’s participants; Dorian Dickerson, Chetachi Ozougwu, Duane Brown, Amobi Okoye, Brandon Lafel.

The Russell Okung UP Foundation will also host a community fun day following the camps. Okung is inviting members of the community to come out, unite with other families in the community and enjoy a fun day complete with food, live music, games, giveaways, face painting, carnival rides and much more! To celebrate the importance of education, Russell Okung and partner Edu, Inc. will also offer nominated students the opportunity to apply to over 35 Historically Black Colleges and Universities with no application fees, through the use of the Edu. The program grew out of Okung’s personal experiences of growing up with and overcoming childhood adversity, and aiming to provide positive opportunities for children to foster leadership, academic and social skills and to give back to their community.

Last year over 500 kids took part in Okung 76 Fun Day.

The Russell Okung UP Foundation. is a 501c(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to give back to the community by reaching out to children of single parent homes while offering them hope through activities and information on the importance of a good education and social responsibility.
