Alex Smith played for a long time tonight, going 7/16 for 62yds on 35 snaps. Colin Kaepernick only took two pass attempts going for -3yds. This game belonged to the backups and rookies as the San Francisco 49ers defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 15 to 13.
Quintin Demps took a kickoff return 104yds for a score for probably the biggest highlight of the night. The kickers received plenty of practice tonight: Phil Dawson (SF) went 3/3 with two 55 yard FGs right after Ryan Succop (KC) put up a 47 yard FG. Succop went 2/2 and an extra point.
This year’s number 1 overall pick in the draft, Eric Fisher, left the game for a scary moment in Kansas City. Thankfully for Fisher and the Chiefs, it was only a rough hit to the hand and he came back in not too long afterwards.
Kansas City didn’t put up 100yds with either rushing or passing. Both teams struggled with penalties and there was only one turnover all game.
