Robert Griffin III: “Yes, I’m All In for Week 1 But I’m Also All In The Rest of My Career”

The Washington Redskins started their organized team activities (OTA’s) this week and Thursday was the first practice open to media. QB Robert Griffin III put on a show, even though he was minus a jersey, but did rock a helmet and shorts. Griffin worked with other rehabbing players. But he was able to showcase his ability to drop back and make throws less than 5 months after total reconstructive knee surgery.

“The knee feels great,” Griffin said to the assembled media post-practice. “I’m able to do all the stuff out there without any hesitation, so that’s the best part about it. I’m excited about that. It’s all about having that confidence, and if you put the work in you’ll have that confidence when you get back out there on the field. It’s about playing like you were never injured.”

Griffin is hoping to be ready by training camp which begins July 25th. “We’re hoping,” coach Mike Shanahan said. “He’s working extremely hard.”

When it comes to ACL surgery, every athlete will use Adrian Peterson’s miraculous recovery as a goal they’d like to reach. Peterson ran for 2,097 and 12 touchdowns last season — proving less than a year recovery from major knee surgery is possible. Robert Griffin III said he reached out to Adrian, although, noted that everyone heals differently. Griffin also talked with his teammate, who shares his same ‘RG3′ initials and had an ACL injury, Rex Grossman III.

Griffin said he would feel comfortable playing week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles without any off-season or pre-season reps. “It’s basically paying attention,” Griffin spoke of taking mental reps. “You know where you’re supposed to be looking and you yell it out.”

2012′s NFL  rookie of the year has received a lot of flack for his ‘All in for Week 1′ commercial with Adidas. When asked about that, Griffin said – “Yes, I’m all in for week 1, but I’m also all in the rest of my career.”

Whenever a question is asked to Robert Griffin III, he always has an answer. Not only that, he always seems to have the correct answer. Just don’t call it politically correct…
