RGIII’s Landover Leap Breaks 8-Game Home Losing Streak

Washington Redskins defeat Vikings

Robert Griffin III’s 76-yard touchdown run was the longest rush by a quarterback since Kordell Stewart’s 80 yard touchdown on December 22, 1996.

On a 3rd and 6 with 2:52 remaining in the 4th quarter and a 31-26 Redskins’ lead: the situation was all too familiar and it seemed like Washington was going to allow another win to slip through their hands. “I saw the double a-gap blitz.. I was thinking if they miss this, I’m going to run for the first,” Griffin said in his post game presser. Well, not only did he move the chains, but he cruised 76 yards down the field for a touchdown.

The Washington Redskins defeated the Minnesota Vikings 38-26, in a game Minnesota seemingly had full control of in the first quarter. It’s clear that adversity is a friend of Griffin’s, because after throwing an early interception – he slammed his foot on the gas pedal and refused to let the Redskins’ offense be contained.

In all, Griffin ended his day completing 17 out of 22 passes, for 182 yards, 1 TD and a interception. He also had 138 rushing yards on 13 carries and two rushing touchdowns.

This was Griffin’s first regular season home victory and the first time Washington has won a home game since week 2 of ’11 season.

Griffin’s 76-yard rushing touchdown was Washington’s second longest scoring play this season – 12 yards less than Pierre Garçon’s 88 yard touchdown in week 1 against the New Orleans Saints. What shouldn’t go unnoticed is the player that made both touchdown’s possible – Joshua Morgan.

Robert Griffin III’s 76-yard touchdown run would have never been possible if Joshua Morgan didn’t provide this outstanding block. In fact, Griffin admitted after the game that he thought about running out of bounds at this point –  “that’s what everyone has been telling me to do,” Griffin joked.

Here’s a clip of Garçon’s 88 yard touchdown against the Saints. Joshua Morgan took care of two Saints’ defenders on this play – allowing Garçon to sprint down the field for a touchdown.

The Washington Redskins have the most exciting player in the National Football League quarterbacking their team.
