Redskins vs Browns: Players Prepped For Excellence

Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins, owners of the NFC’s longest active winning streak (four games), will travel to face the Cleveland Browns in Week 15. Unfortunately, due to QB Robert Griffin III’s sprained LCL sustained during Washington’s Week 14 match-up against the Baltimore Ravens – rookie QB Kirk Cousins will make his first professional start.

The Redskins have won four in a row for the first time since 2008 and kept the streak alive in dramatic fashion vs. Baltimore in Week 14. Rookie quarterback Kirk Cousins tied the game with an 11-yard touchdown pass and a two-point conversion run in the final minute of regulation. In doing
so, Cousins and Robert Griffin III became the first pair of NFL rookies to each throw a touchdown pass for the same team in the same game since 1966, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. They also became the
first pair of rookie quarterbacks to each lead a fourth-quarter comeback victory for the same team in the same season since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.
The tie game set the stage for first-year kicker Kai Forbath, who hit a 34-yard game-winning field goal in overtime. Since joining the Redskins in Week 6, Forbath is 14-for-14 on field goal attempts, setting the Redskins record for consecutive field goals made to start a career. If Forbath makes his next three field goal attempts, he will break Garrett Hartley’s NFL record for most consecutive field goals made to open a career (16, set across the 2008-09 seasons).

Players prepped for excellence is a weekly game preview –  listing two players from the Redskins’ offense and defense that are destined for a strong performance in the team’s upcoming match-up

Alfred Morris is prepped for excellence - With Kirk Cousins receiving the nod to start in place of injured QB Robert Griffin III – Morris will be heavily relied on this week. Morris is 35 yards from entering the top ten rushing yardage seasons in Washington Redskins’ history.

London Fletcher is prepped for excellence - London Fletcher has started 237 consecutive games which is tied for the leagues longest active playing streak. What’s surprising is, London has never played in his home city (Cleveland, Ohio). Fletcher will raise his game with Griffin out on the offensive side and help lead the defense into causing problems for the Browns’ rookie trio – Brandon Weedon, Trent Richardson and Josh Gordon.

Aldrick Robinsons is prepped for excellence - During training camp, Kirk Cousins built a strong rapport with Logan Paulsen and Aldrick Robinson. Both players could end up having a solid game. Aldrick Robinson has gone a few weeks without having many opportunities to make big plays – so he’s due for a big game.

Kai Forbath is prepped for excellence - This game has all the makings of each team needing to have success with kicking field goals. Forbath happens to be 3 consecutive field goals away from breaking the league record for most consecutive field goals. That could very well happen on Sunday against the Browns.
