The Buffalo Bills stay busy as the team has agreed to terms with running back Anthony Dixon on a contract
Dixon has appeared in all 64 regular season games since entering the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers as a sixth-round (173rdoverall) draft choice in 2010. The 6-1, 233-pound Mississippi State product has totaled 148 carries for 458 yards with eight touchdowns in his NFL career.
Dixon was asked how he feels about this and why he picked Buffalo.
”I feel great. Just happy they gave me the opportunity to continue doing what I love and I’m ready to get to work. I’m excited”.
Do you feel you can fill a role in short yardage situations?
”Yeah I consider myself as an all-around football player. I can do anything asked of me in the backfield. I can play multiple positions, whatever coach asks me to do I can do. I’m just looking to come in and show them what I can do and then it’s up to them where they put me”.
Obviously the Bills have two pretty good running backs in C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson, but it’s a wear and tear position. Do you feel like there is a chance you can get some meaningful chances in whatever role they want you to fill?
”Oh yeah. I’ve watched those guys over the last couple years and I’m definitely a fan of their game. I’m just excited to get a chance to get around them and work with them, see what I can learn. I just bring some more to the team, bring some leadership and bring some energy. I’m a high-energy guy. I’m just excited to get down here and help out. Hopefully we can get this thing going in the right direction”.
How would you describe your running style?
“Definitely a power back, but I have that sneaky speed. Some guys don’t think or don’t know that I’m fast like I am, but I have quickness. I can do it all, I’m very versatile. I have good hands and I’m just looking to come down here and put it all on display. Definitely want to show what I’m worth”.
On special teams, tell us how you feel about contributing on special teams?
“I definitely found a love of special teams in my years at San Francisco. Never had played it before I got to the league and I just got there and started watching more film and that is part of who I am. I’m looking forward to coming down here and contributing on special teams. Whatever coach wants me to do, I started returning kicks last year and I can play all the positions. It don’t really matter where you put me, I’m going to execute”.
On special teams did you do all four phases?
“Yeah. I did all four phases all the years down there in San Francisco and I pretty much played every position. It won’t be nothing new to me, I’m fully capable and I’m just ready to get to work”.
Dixon took to Twitter Thanking the 49ers for a lot of great years.
