The Washington Redskins fell to the Seattle Seahawks 24-14 Sunday night, ending Washington’s post season campaign.
Washington started off firing on all cylinders, scoring 14 unanswered points. However, they could not get anything going after their first two drives. A lot of it was the result to the play before Washington’s second touchdown, when QB Robert Griffin III fell awkwardly on his injured knee. He came back the next play and was able to distribute the football to tight end Logan Paulsen, but it was clear that Griffin had re-injured his knee. Griffin, of course, sprained his LCL against the Baltimore Ravens a month ago but only missed one game – finishing the last two of the season. He will have a MRI on Monday to find out if anything was further damaged.
The Redskins’ defense also started off hot and was able to fluster Seahawks’ rookie signal caller Russell Wilson. But that didn’t last long. When Russell Wilson settled down, the Seahawks’ offense was able to take full control of the football game.
Wilson ended the game passing for 187 yards, completing 15 of his 26 attempts with one touchdown. Griffin completed 10 of his 19 pass attempts for only 84 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.
Seahawks’ player of the game – Russell Wilson played great, but RB Marshawn Lynch is the reason Seattle was able to stay in the football game. Wilson almost coughed up the football towards the end of the first half, and Lynch was able to pick the ball up and make a big play out of it. Lynch ran for 132 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown, averaging 6.6 yards a carry.
Redskins player of the game – Safety Reed Doughty played the game of his life. Doughty had 12 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 pass defensed. He was the main player that slowed Seattle’s defense down.
From here, the Redskins will enter the off-season after a plethora of players suffered injuries throughout their 2012 campaign – including their franchise QB Robert Griffin III. They have a ton of hope for the future, but it begins and ends with the health of their QB.
Seattle will move on to the second round of the tournament and will face the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday Jan. 13th at 1pm.
