Star Studded Super Bowl Event for NOLA

Dozens of athletes and big names in sports graced the Red Carpet at the first Pro Player Insiders Super Bowl in New Orleans. Athletes, media, and fans attended the event in support of “Where There’s a Will, There’s a way,” a charity founded by Saints defensive lineman Will Smith and  Actor Wendell Pierce’s Pontchartrain Park Neighborhood Association. Together the two NOLA locals brought awareness to their effort to improve the NOLA community.

Among those in attendance to benefit Smith’s charity were teammates Jabari Greer, Cam Jordan, and Mike McKenzie. The Executive Director of the NFL Player Association, DeMaurice Smith, was also socializing with the various guests throughout the evening. NFL Network’s Greg Cosell, nephew of legendary broadcaster Howard Cosell, also came to show support.PPI Party

Other celebrities in attendance included Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk (Rams), Byron Chamberlin (Former Bronco), Jeff Charleston (Bucs), Jarvis Green(Patriots), Kirk Morrison (Bills), Al Smith (Steelers), Ricardo McDonald (PPI Insider,Former Bengal), Randy Fuller (PPI Insider, former Steeler), Chester Pitts (Texans), Calais Campbell (Cardinals),Renee Knorr (Owner,My Beauti Network) , Hannibal Navies (Former 49er), Ray Brown (Former Player,Panthers Coach),Travis Johnson (Former Texan,Charger).

Actor,Omar Benson Miller (8 Mile, CSI: Miami) even made it a point to stop by to mingle, even amongst the many other Super Bowl events he was invited to. Check out some of the stars who came to support Smith, Pierce, and Pro Player Insiders in this quick video clip:

Partygoers were treated to a variety of complementary wines from, a glam bar, and a local group of musicians created the ultimate NOLA atmosphere with their smooth jazz.

Greer, gave specific mention to the impact Hurricane Katrina had and their obligation to give back to the community that supports their beloved Saints. “Supporting Will’s foundation created an ultimate opportunity and just felt like the right thing to do,” according to Greer.

“It’s no secret that the community and the people of New Orleans hold a special place in my heart,” Smith said. “It was a no-brainer to host this VIP event that can directly impact our neighborhood. This is a special event with my NFL family and supporters [of my foundation]. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate having Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans.”

Wendell Pierce is a native of New Orleans and an actor, best known for his work in HBO dramas, including his portrayal of Detective Bunk Moreland in “The Wire” and is currently starring as the trombonist Antoine Batiste in “Treme”. Wendell is also the Chairman of the Pontchartrain Neighborhood Association which has been rebuilding that historic heart of the New Orleans community since it was destroyed by hurricane Katrina.
