Plaxico Burress is going to be playing for the Jets. The call came when he was en route to the west coast to meet with the San Francisco 49ers after meeting with the New York Giants on Friday evening and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday morning.
The Jets contacted him while he was on a layover and made a one year offer worth $3,017,000 for Burress, which he reportedly verbally accepted immediately. The $17,000 is significant in honor of the number 17 he wore with the New York Giants.
Burress commented on going from the tight ship that Tom Coughlin ran with the Giants to the very different type of locker room personality that Jets have under head coach Rex Ryan. “You see his personality. He supports his players like I’ve never seen from a head-coaching standpoint,” Burress said. “His players respect him and they go out and play hard for him. As a player you don’t want anything more from a head coach than to show ultimate respect as a person and as a player and to give him that back by going out and playing hard and playing well.”
