We talked to a neurosurgeon today who sounded very concerned that Colts QB Peyton Manning is experiencing weakness in his triceps. "The tricep is supplied by the C7 nerve root, the nerve root that he had decompression surgery on in May," the doc explained. "If it was just generalized weakness, that could be almost anything. But with the weakness localized to the muscle supplied by the nerve that he had surgery to decompress, this is clearly related to the surgery (or to the problem that led to the surgery in the first place)." The doctor also mentioned that he's not surprised that Manning is still experiencing weakness almost 4 months after surgery, and that the timeframe to get back to 100% is almost impossible to predict. The non-technical translation: Manning could very well be out quite a bit longer. We'd rather let someone else gamble on him at this point.
