Pro Bowl defensive tackle Vince Wilfork is the big guy in the middle of the Patriots defense, and he’s taking on a big task this season, raising money for the Vince Wilfork Foundation and Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund.
The cause is very personal to Wilfork, who lost his dad to complications related to diabetes while Vince was still at the University of Miami. His dad never had the chance to see him play professional football, or to see his grandchildren – Wilfork and his wife Bianca have three children.
“Bianca and I realize how precious life is and we are dedicated to doing all we can to prevent others from having to suffer the loss we did because of diabetes,” Wilfork said.
The program runs throughout the season, through the final regular season home game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, January 1, 2012. Supporters are encouraged to pledge either $7.50 or $75.00 for each tackle that Wilfork makes this season (matching Wilfork’s jersey number 75), or to make one time donations.
Fans who participate in the program also have the opportunity to meet Wilfork at a VIP reception later in the season.
