Following consecutive road games in Weeks 7-8, the Washington Redskins return home in Week 9 to host their annual Homecoming Game, as they face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff from FedExField is set for 1 p.m. ET.
Quarterback Robert Griffin III is rapidly closing in on rookie passing records in Redskins history. With 23 completions on Sunday, Griffin III can match Norm Snead’s team record for completions by a rookie quarterback (172).
The game will be held two days prior to Election Day, as observers will wait to see if the “Redskins Rule” holds true. In 17 of the 18 presidential elections contested since the Redskins moved to Washington in 1937, a Redskins win in the team’s final home game before Election Day has meant a win for the incumbent party occupying the White House. A Redskins loss in that final home game before the election has meant a popular vote victory for the challenging party.
So it’s simple – if Washington wins and the “Redskins Rule” holds true – President Obama will be in office for 4 more years.
Players prepped for excellence is a weekly game preview listing two players from the Redskins’ offense and defense that are destined for a strong performance in the team’s upcoming match-up.
Aldrick Robinson is prepped for excellence - Robinson has been guaranteed more playing time/starting role in today’s football game. He has not been used much since week 1 and 2 for various reasons. But since then, Robinson has worked on his route running and blocking – impressing Redskins’ coaches enough to guarantee him more playing time. Washington is searching for an explosive play maker with the uncertainty of Pierre Garcon’s return, and Aldrick Robinson fits that mold.
Jarvis Jenkins is prepped for excellence - Jenkins has disappointed every since receiving the opportunity to start after Adam Carriker suffered a season ending injury. Defensive Coordinator Jim Hasslet said that Jenkins is beating offensive linemen, but he’s struggling to finish each play. It’s time for Jenkins to step up and create havoc.
Robert Griffin III is prepped for excellence - Griffin had a down week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which really wasn’t all his fault. This week he’s facing a young defense that’s played decent recently, however, could be overpowered by Griffin’s ability.
Perry Riley is prepped for excellence – Riley will have to keep his eyes on Cam Newton the entire game with the threat of Cam scrambling out the pocket. Riley is quick in his pursuit and will need to step up his game today against the Carolina Panthers.
