It’s been a rocky ride for the former Miami Hurricane as he put up outstanding numbers despite never really playing in a system that maximized his talents nor never having a true franchise quarterback throwing passes his way. After a drama filled offseason and 2014 season, Johnson was finally granted a release and was able to pursue other opportunities.
That changes now as the Colts have young and rising star Andrew Luck under center. Johnson will join a wideout group that includes T.Y. Hilton and second year player Dante Moncrief. Johnson should start immediately and be the possession wide receiver Luck needs with the departure of Reggie Wayne.
During his twelve year Texans career, he put up outstanding numbers playing in former Texans head coach Gary Kubiak’s system that featured end zone targets to tight ends and running backs. Catching passes from quarterbacks such as Matt Schaub, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Colt Keenum and Ryan Mallet, Johnson still managed to catch 1012 passes for 13,597 yards and 64 touchdowns.
The six time All Pro, and seven time Pro Bowler, will join former Miami Hurricane running back Frank Gore in Indianapolis. Gore likewise played his entire career up to this point with the same team, the San Francisco Forty Niners. His new teammates seem very happy to have him!
