“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates loot on Treasure Island,” said the great Walt Disney, and Colts quarterback Andrew Luck couldn’t agree more about the importance of a good book.
Through the years Luck has had a passion for books. “I’ve enjoyed reading for a long time, and it’s honestly a good way to spend your free time,” he said.
So what did the All-Pro quarterback do? He launched the Andrew Luck book club on April 25th, 2016. Luck recommends two books per week for visitors to the site. One of the recommendations falls into a category he calls “Rookies” or beginning level readers — which is a book he enjoyed when he was a child, or a book he thinks younger readers will enjoy and relate too.
The second book is for “Veterans,” or advanced level readers. These are books that Luck has read recently or books other advanced level readers have recommended to him.
“To be a member, you don’t have to join or login. All you need to do is read the featured books and post your thoughts using the hashtag #ALbookclub on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Then head over to Andrew Luck book club to see what you and others are posting about the books,” said Luck when asked about how to join his informational club.
Luck encourages interaction with other readers through Q and A’s through the blogs linked to his website page. “I encourage people to get creative with their posts. Take photos and posts pictures, or drawing related to the current book selections. Record video questions or anything that can make this club fun and engage the team of readers that we are building,” said Luck when asked about how readers can get more involved.
He believes that having this interaction with the fans will encourage them to go out and read more books, and not only the books that he recommends through his website, but everywhere in their local communities.
While the book club is still in its beginning stages, new members continue to pour in each day. “Starting this online book club felt like a natural and really fun opportunity. The website will be a platform for me to share my love of reading with an even larger audience.” said Luck.
