Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears’ quarterbacks had a strong game against an Eagles’ defense that had given up almost 500 yards. Jay cutler went 9 for 13 for 85 yards and only played a couple of series. Back up QB’s Jimmy Clausen and Jordan Palmer looked very sharp in their debut. Jordan Palmer had completed 8 of 11 for 104 with a touchdown to go with it.
Palmer had showed a lot of poise in the pocket. The protection that he was given by his offensive line gave him the opportunity to step up and throw the ball on the dime to his players. He was very decisive with his decision making and it showed with him hitting his targets accurately. He had one bad pass that led to an Eagle’s pick. The only downside with Palmer was his ability to throw the long ball. There were a couple of plays where he had a man open down the field, but missed them by a couple of inches. In due time he will get that under control.
Jimmy Clausen came out the gate on fire! He had hit Chris Williams for a 73 yard bomb over the Eagles’ defense. After it was all said and done Clausen had passed for 150 and had 2 touchdowns on his resume. Clausen was reading what the defense was given him. If he saw the Eagles’ trying to blitz him he ended up changing the play or throwing quick slants to the open man. As of right now Clausen is in the lead for the back-up position, but best believe it will be a dogfight between both of these quarterbacks.
The Bears’ defense held its own against the Eagles. The first unit for the Eagles struggled to get in sync with their offense. The Bears held the first unit to only 55-yards of total offense which is a good sign that the defense could obtain a high flying opponent.
Key Notes
Center Brian De La Puente had suffered an injury. It is not telling how serious this injury maybe.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles could not get into sync with any of their formations. The Bears had the Eagles on their heels the whole entire game. Eagles’ QB Nick Foles had threw 2 costly picks. On the offensive side of the ball the Eagles exploited the Bears defense at times. Josh Huff who returned a kick return 102 yards showed that he is very explosive than what people think. The offensive line protected their quarterbacks, but somewhere in the third to start of the fourth quarter the line showed some grey areas. They was letting the Bears put pressure on the quarterbacks, which made it difficult to throw to an open receiver.
The defensive side of the ball was horrendous. The Eagles gave up almost 500 total yards to the Bears. They had trouble containing the wide receivers and often had trouble tackling the receivers on the initial hit and that gave the Bears’ receiver more chances to get more yards down the field. The good thing that came out of the Eagles’ defense was Beau Allen. Allen showed some signs with stopping big plays, reading the offense and putting pressure on the Bears. The Eagles need to work on their defense. They had nine penalties for 89 yards, held the ball for just 23:06, and turned it over four times. In week 2 the Eagles’ defense have to stop big plays over the top and just communication with each other.
