This message is for fans of both the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL. Don’t Panic! The Cowboys aren’t as bad as they played Monday night.
A wise coach once said, “you are never as good or bad as you think, you have to stay level headed”. This phrase is applicable to the Cowboys (2-2) start, their loss on Monday night to the Bears, and the play of Tony Romo.
The Cowboys pedestrian (2-2) start should not ignite panic among Cowboys Nation or the media. It is the same start that the Packers, Patriots, Giants, Redskins, Seahawks, Broncos, Jets and Bills are all off to.The Cowboys are off to better start than the Steelers (1-2), Lions (1-3), and Saints (0-4). Seven of eleven above mentioned teams made the playoffs last season. Is this (2-2) start really as bad as it is being made out to be?
Cowboys fans should be level headed. They are in second place in the NFC East. They trail the Eagles by 1 game with 2 games left to play against them. More importantly, the Cowboys showed their potential by beating the Giants at Met Life Stadium on a night they committed 13 penalties. In addition, Red J and the gang found a way to beat a tough and physical Buccaneers team. It wasn’t their best game, but they found a way to win. That is the sign of a good team. It is not time to panic, even after Monday night’s loss.
The loss to the Bears was a bad loss – don’t get me wrong. However, the sky is not falling. Monday night’s game was decided by 5 plays. If these five plays go the Cowboys way, the headlines on Tuesday morning are significantly different.
Play #1- The miss-communication that led to the pick six:
That was a play that can easily be fixed in the future. Romo and Bryant had a miss-communication, something that has happened to every QB/WR combo in the league. It shouldn’t be a concern going forward.
(Side not: According to some media personalities, Dez Bryant played the worst game in his young career. If a player’s worst game is an 8 catch 105 yard effort, than they are a stud – end of conversation.)
Play #2 – The Wright interception on the dropped pass by Ogletree:
If Ogletree catches this pass (the same pass he caught to ice the game against the Giants) the Bears don’t get the Lance Briggs pick six. If the Cowboys capitalize on that drive, take 7 off the board for the Bears and add at least 3 for the Cowboys
